MOTHER-IN-LAW’S REFLECTIONS…

‘Why do these things happen? Why was I feeling ill today of all days? The message had come round that Jesus was in town and I’d had a feeling Simon Peter would bring him home. It would be so lovely to see them! And my daughter misses her husband since he left to follow Jesus. It would be good for them to have some time together, too.

‘But I had to go and lie down. I was hot and shivery at the same time and I ached all over. I was beginning to feel dizzy – I didn’t want to faint over the hot cooking pots. I remember thinking that the meal would have to wait. It was the last thought in my throbbing head as I drifted off to sleep...

‘I remember hearing his gentle voice, but I couldn’t tell you what he said. What I do remember, though, is Jesus holding my hand as he spoke to me. Suddenly, I felt absolutely fine! Completely better! I remember too laughing delightedly with Jesus as I jumped up and grabbed my apron. Time to start cooking!’

It’s a beautiful evening in Capernaum, but when you reach Simon Peter’s house all is not beautiful. Simon Peter’s mother-in-law isn’t well. Straight away, Jesus goes to her and makes her well again! She is so well and happy that she immediately gets up and cooks everyone a tasty meal. What a wonderful thing to do for your friend!
