Casting Vision Like Nehemiah

DAY 1 OF 4

Casting Vision Like Nehemiah - Part I

In the mid-5th Century B.C., the Jewish people had been living amongst the rubble of Jerusalem for decades. Nehemiah needed to convince them to rebuild the walls around their great city. A poor job of casting vision could have stopped or hindered his project.

Nehemiah’s vision casting is only two verses long, but it identifies four elements that may be helpful to us today in our own vision casting opportunities. The first element is to clearly state the problem

Nehemiah 2:17 says, "Then I said to them, ‘You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire.'"

It seems elementary, but the people of Jerusalem had been living amongst the rubble for so long, they needed Nehemiah to remind them that they weren’t living in the best of circumstances.

If you are trying to rally others, make sure they understand and agree to a problem.

Questions for Reflection:

  • What prevents business leaders from clearly stating a problem?
  • Even if a business leader clearly states the problem, why do you think some employees remain unmotivated?
  • Why do you think Nehemiah’s statement of the problem is so effective?

About this Plan

Casting Vision Like Nehemiah

There are 66 verses about casting vision in the Bible. Arguably one of the most effective vision casters in the Bible was Nehemiah, a Jewish leader who convinced the Jews to rebuild the wall around Jerusalem in the 5th Century B.C. Although Nehemiah’s vision casting is only two verses long, it has four elements that are crucial to today’s business leader. This Bible reading plan looks at those four elements.
