Through the Bible: JeremiahSample

The New Covenant
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares the LORD: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts. And I will be their God, and they shall be my people.
Jeremiah 31:33 (ESV)
The old covenant had the law written on stone tablets; it was temporary and impersonal. God knew that man could not fulfill these laws and had a plan for a new covenant based on grace. God foretold this new covenant through the prophet Jeremiah, a covenant that is everlasting, by putting the law onto our hearts. The new covenant was fulfilled by Jesus’s death on the cross which did not get rid of but fulfilled the old covenant. We often need to remind ourselves that Jesus’s work was finished on the cross and that all we need is the indwelling Holy Spirit to live a holy life.
Prayer
Father in Heaven, I thank You for the blood that Jesus shed on the cross so that You can be our personal God. Help us to hold You close to our hearts so that we may not sin against You. I pray Father for Your continuous presence in our lives in mind, body, and spirit. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.

About this Plan

Jeremiah, the author of this book, was born in approximately 650 BC. He was called by God to prophesy to the southern kingdom of Judah of the imminent judgement due to their disobedience to God. Often mocked and beaten for his prophecies, Jeremiah remained faithful to his calling. Though Judah was given forty years to repent, the people continued in sin and were eventually exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.
