THE SICK HOUSE

Jesus had had a busy day, ending with time spent at the Jewish meeting place in Capernaum, with his fishermen friends. Now he had come to Simon Peter’s house for dinner. But there was no meal ready! Simon’s wife’s mother was ill. Straight away, Jesus went to see her.

What happened next? Did Jesus help her? Here’s her story:

“While I was lying on my bed, all hot and feverish and so uncomfortable, I heard footsteps. Who could it be? There was Jesus himself! He smiled and laid his hand on my head – my hot, aching head. His hand felt lovely – firm and cool. I looked up at him and saw his kind face. I could see that he was concerned about me and that he cared for me.”

Jesus put out his hands to help Simon Peter’s mother-in-law. Look at your own hands. What sort of help can you offer with your hands?

Pray for anyone you know who isn’t well. “Lord Jesus, [say the name of the person] isn’t very well. Please help them get better soon.”
