Shine Your Light by Tobin Heath
READY
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
SET
I was just 20 years old when I first joined the United States Women’s National Soccer Team. As the youngest member, it was hard to imagine that I have influence over others. But it didn’t take me long to realize how big my platform truly was.
While some athletes cringe at the idea of being a role model, I am thankful for the opportunity to share the love of Jesus with others. Becoming known in my sport isn’t what drives me to work hard. It’s Jesus. That’s why I play. I play to glorify him.
My soccer career isn’t about worldly outcome in terms of winning or losing. It’s about Jesus being known; not in a way that forces it on other people, but in a way that lets people know how He has transformed my life and given me purpose, meaning, love, and satisfaction. That’s the message of Jesus. It’s not a platform to impose on people. It’s a platform to love people.
I worship God with the gifts he has given me. That’s my motivation when I step out on the field every day. I’m just a vessel to share those gifts with others and hopefully allow his love to shine through everything I do.
