A GOOD CATCH

Slippery customers, fish. They’re scaly and slimy, and they smell. You’ve got to like them if you work with them. Who’d be a fisherman?

Fishermen in Bible times had a hard life (although it’s not easy nowadays, either.) Water is unpredictable, boats are vulnerable and a catch cannot be guaranteed. Sometimes fishermen could watch their nets all night and return with nothing, and as for the weather...

So what was it that Jesus saw in these hard-working, rough and ready men? Great potential. When Jesus called them to be his followers, they turned out to be honest, loyal and brave. They were a good catch.

Jesus invites you to follow him too, just as he invited those men. Are you ready? If you are responding to Jesus for the first time, go for it! He promises to be with you and help you – forever. If you are already following Jesus, hang in there! It was never going to be easy, but it’s the very best decision to make – forever.
