What Is God's View on Marriage?Sample
Marriage is a lifelong covenant relationship
A marriage is much more than a “business contract” between husband and wife. It is a lifelong, exclusive covenant between two people, of which God is witness. He is present at every wedding! Jesus even says that, whenever a man and woman marry, God has joined them together (see Matthew 19:6 and Mark 10:9). This gives great weight to our marriage vows!
Marriage as a covenant, not a business contract, also means that it can’t be undone. Marriage is meant to last “for as long as we both shall live". That’s why God warns the Israelites, “let none of you be faithless to the wife of your youth” (Malachi 2:15). God takes it very seriously when husband and wife do not faithfully love each other as they have promised to do at their wedding.
Nowadays, many people don’t take their wedding vows that seriously. In many western countries, about half of all marriages end in divorce. This is clearly not how God intended it to be! He exhorts us to be faithful to our spouse for the rest of our life.
