VIEW FROM A MATTRESS

To start with, she had just felt very, very tired. So, as her mother had suggested, she had taken a nap. Except that, later, she just couldn’t wake up properly. Her body felt so heavy and she ached all over. Her head was throbbing and if she tried to move she felt dizzy and nauseous. So she lay still. She would feel better soon.

But she didn’t. She felt worse. She seemed to be drifting in and out of a very deep sleep and she could hear anxious voices beside her. She lay there, trying to figure out what they were saying. Was her mother crying? Surely not! She heard her father saying something about Jesus…

It seemed as if a lifetime had passed. Through a haze she saw someone at her side. He was holding out his hand to her. He was smiling and his voice was gentle and kind, but firm too. He said, ‘Little girl, get up!’

So she did. Straight away. How did she feel? Absolutely fine, but very hungry!

TALKING WITH GOD TOGETHER

Sit in a circle together. Starting with the oldest person, turn to the left and say: ‘Jesus says, “Don’t be afraid.”’ Pass the message round the circle.

Then start with the youngest person, turn to the right and say: ‘Jesus says, “Just have faith.”’ Pass the message round, until you have all said and heard Jesus’ words.
