A New HeartSample
How can I receive a new heart?
All of us like new things, a new home, a new phone, new clothes.. but a new heart? How can I get that?
Being in Christ makes us altogether a new creation. Old things have passed away and all things have become new. That includes our heart! In Christ, the old things that held our hearts no longer have power over us. Instead, we now have the promise of having a new heart that is soft and devoted to God and is led by the Holy Spirit. But we don’t see that happening instantly. That’s because the newness of heart is often a lifetime process. Here are some steps to receiving this new heart.
One of the first things to do is to have an attitude of humility and repent for hard heartedness.
Then we need to ask Him in faith for a new heart. God has promised to remove the hardened heart of stone in us and give us a new heart. It is His desire that we give up the old heart and its ways and receive a new heart. We must believe this. At the cross, the power that sin and rebellion had over us was broken. We are now free to choose who we want to follow.
Also, we must submit to the Holy Spirit to change our hearts. It is only God who can change us through the power of the Holy Spirit. We cannot do it by ourselves. So many times we try to change our hearts and we fail. The Holy Spirit is the One sent to us who can enable us to have a changed, new heart.
Stay in fellowship and allow people to pray for you, love you and speak into your life. The easiest way to harden our hearts is to isolate ourselves from people and to deny people the right to speak honestly with us.
Finally, we are responsible to guard the new heart. The bible reminds us to keep our hearts with all diligence. We cannot be casual about the condition of our hearts. We must continually tend it and keep out everything that hardens it and ensure that our hearts are tender, sensitive and obedient to the Lord.
