Loving Jesus More

DAY 26 OF 40

You Are Not Alone

I have learned to love Jesus more through specific periods of solitude – sitting quietly long enough for my soul to become still, and on long walks. I walked briskly on my morning walk, having earlier pushed aside a nagging thought to meditate or pray rather than listen to a leadership audiobook. Ignoring the unperceived invitation of the Father, I continued walking and listened to another leadership book’s concluding pages. At my halfway point, I then chose to listen to a pray-as-you-go (PAYG) daily meditation. Within minutes I was awash in the Lord’s tangible presence; my soft heart tilled soil for his planting. He bade me to slow down, become aware of his presence and savor him. Slowing my pace to a stroll or a wander, I embraced him as he awakened all my senses to his tangible presence. The strolling pace was a metaphor contrasting my rushing, hurried and soul-draining life. In the slowness, I lingered. I heard his voice and entered a dimension unmarked by time. I saw my hurry as an enemy.

During a second playing of PAYG, I came upon a runoff stream almost simultaneously as I heard about his forgiveness running over me. I left the path towards the stream. Gazing at the rushing water, the speaker invited me to reflect, “Spend a moment now, speaking to Jesus about what he is asking of you and what he is promising you.” Like a spring, his words welled up within me. I leaned my head against a tree and gave way to warm tears as he said, “You are not alone. This is what it feels like to be with me. I have answered your soul’s cry. You are never, nor will ever be alone.” A lifelong question now answered in relational experience with God. Exchanging life for Jesus to life with Jesus is helping me love Jesus more.
