A BALLOON AND AN EGG
“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.”
John 10:10
Which life are you living right now? Is it like a balloon or an egg? What's the difference? Balloons always look attractive. No child does not likes balloons. Most balloons are round and colorful. It can also move everywhere. The atmosphere of a birthday or party becomes very lively because of the balloon. However, it is all just a hoax. What are the contents of the balloon? It's nothing. Balloons are filled with gas. However, the gas would immediately evaporate along with the air when it broke. Does our life look like that? Does it look beautiful but ends in vain?
How about eggs? Eggs are also round. Compared to beautiful balloons, eggs seem unattractive. It is small and also prone to breakage. The egg contains life, although it seems empty. Eggs have tremendous potential. While taking time to hatch, the eggs require heat, and the chicks need to struggle to come out of their shells.
Life is indeed very vulnerable. We can experience pressure after pressure. However, we are by no means designed to have a life like a balloon, which is beautiful for a moment and then perishes. We are challenged to have life, even to have life in abundance. Even though life is fragile like an eggshell, we are challenged to continue living it while developing all the potentials within us as a gift from God. Our existence may be momentary and not long, but how we use our lives is important for the Lord. We are here, ready to be useful.
If you are wasting your life right now, remember well that we will not be gone at the end of our lives. We will remain a person who will go into eternity, either victorious or perish. Everything is determined in the present while we are still alive. The challenge for your right now is to ask yourself, whether you live your life like a balloon or you fight for your life just like an egg?
Reflection:
1. Back to the question above: do you live your life like a balloon that is fleeting, or do you struggle like an egg?
2. What kind of life do you live right now? Are you chasing maturity or something futile?
Application:
Build a meaningful life for God and others!
