Finding Deep and Lasting Joy in JesusSample
God puts joy in our hearts
“You have put more joy in my heart than they have when their grain and wine abound.” (Psalm 4:7)
Life offers many reasons for joy. We may delight in the sunshine, the beauty of a blossoming tree or the company of an old friend. We may enjoy our daily work or the rest of a vacation. These are all things to be thankful for.
But in Psalm 4, David mentions another source of joy that exceeds the joy of earthly blessings, namely his relationship with the Lord God. This is more important to him than abundance of “grain and wine”, so of material wealth. All other things pale into insignificance when compared with the joy of knowing God.
Real and lasting joy is a gift of God. Other sources of joy are often unstable. The weather may change, the blossom withers and our friend may leave us for someone else. But the Lord God is “the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). So, we will not be disappointed if we rejoice in his love. “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” (1 Chronicles 16:34).
Take a moment to ponder God’s love for you, and praise Him for it!
