Daily Bible Reading – August 2021: God’s Word of PromiseSample
August 11
Introduction
Today’s reading presents the reasons for the battle soon to take place when the Israelites enter Canaan. Moses again reminds the people of the consequences they will suffer if they rebel against God and how his intercessory prayers caused God to spare them when they sinned.
Today’s Scripture Reading
Deuteronomy 9:1-29
Today’s Key Verse: Deuteronomy 9:18a
[Moses said:] “Then once again I lay face downward in the LORD’s presence for forty days and nights and did not eat or drink anything.”
Reflect
What reasons are given for the LORD’s driving out the occupants of Canaan? What is the promise that the LORD intends to keep? What caused God to become angry with the Israelites when they were in the desert? Today’s reading recalls Moses’s intercessory prayers and fasting that spared Israel from God’s anger (verses 15-29). What did he say to God? For whom will you be praying today?
Pray
God of love and steadfast promise, forgive me when I act in ways that are not in keeping with your will. Teach me your ways and help me to obey your commands. Amen.
Prayer Concern
Those desiring intercessory prayer
Tomorrow’s Reading
Deuteronomy 10:1-22: Moses receives the second pair of tablets with the Ten Commandments.
