A Letter in Lockdown

DAY 9 OF 15

I HATE IT WHEN MY GLASSES FOG UP!

When was the last time you grumbled, whined, or complained? When was the last time you argued with someone? As I write this, I can think of moments within the last 24 hours for all of the above! I mean, wearing a mask FOGS UP MY GLASSES, WHY!? There I go again. The fact that I have about ten masks at home, or even one really, indicates that I am complaining from a position of privilege. I am typing on a computer right now. I am privileged. I have nothing to grumble, whine or complain about.

If I ‘do everything without grumbling or arguing’ as Paul encourages, then the outcome is I become ‘blameless and pure,’ set apart and more like Jesus. Paul goes on to reveal the outcome of being blameless and pure, which is, shining among them like stars. ‘Them’ being those people who are far from God and in need of him.

You are called to SHINE - called to shine among all people not so that you stand out, but so HE stands out. God uses us to stand out, to shine so that those who need him can find him. What a privilege to be used by God! The creator of all things wants to use you. Wow!

You may have heard it said that the little things make a big difference. Creating habits in your life where you grumble, whine and complain less causes you to stand out in a world where people are well versed in grumbling, whining, and complaining. If one less complaint helps another move toward Jesus, I’m up for it. Are you?

Challenge:

Gratitude > Grumbling

Next time you find yourself grumbling and complaining, stop and thank God for something for which you’re grateful. It could simply be having access to a mask!

Prayer:

Today Jesus, I want to choose gratitude over grumbling. I know I have so much to be grateful for, but it doesn’t always feel that way. Would you please help me? Open my eyes to your blessings in my life and help me to see what you are teaching me in this season. I thank you, and I love you.
