Through the Bible: Nehemiah

DAY 2 OF 4

Strengthen My Hands

For they all wanted to frighten us, thinking, “Their hands will drop from the work, and it will not be done.” But now, O God, strengthen my hands.
Nehemiah 6:9 (ESV)

Mother Teresa devoted her life to serving the poor. By overcoming criticism, obstacles, and not giving up, she expanded her mission to support the poor and disadvantaged across the world.

Nehemiah, who led in the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem, also refused to give up to do God’s will. He faced insults, ridicule, threats, and sabotage from the enemies around him. He sought help from God by praying “strengthen my hands.” He showed tremendous determination and character to remain steadfast in his responsibility, despite the enemies saying that it couldn’t be done and the job was too big and problems were too great. God’s will was done; the wall was completed in fifty-two days.

We all face challenges and difficulties in life. Just as God helped Nehemiah, He will also strengthen our hands in whatever tasks He gives to us. When we pray for strength, God always answers. With God’s help, no job is too big or no problem is too great.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we pray for Your strength in all circumstances. We trust that we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Day 1Day 3

About this Plan

Through the Bible: Nehemiah

Following Zerubbabel and Ezra, Nehemiah’s rebuilding of the city wall in Jerusalem is the last part of the trio. These leaders helped the Jews withstand all opposition and restore their identity as a nation. The two volumes of Ezra-Nehemiah send a strong message to us: God is faithful to the covenant with His people. We might go astray, but God will always bring us back to the Promised Land.
