The Man God SentSample
Sent by God to Baptize God’s Son
John the Baptist was preaching repentance, telling people to change their mind. Revival was blowing up. If he were here today, he’d be in the middle of Los Angeles, right where all the freeways meet. Where he was baptizing people in the desert in Israel, where he went, was a major pathway where people came from all over Asia, Europe, and Africa. He wasn’t waiting for a single person on a donkey—he was like on a major highway, hounding people. He was getting people ready for Jesus.
The Pharisees looked at John as if he were a caveman. They were the city boys who came with their suit and tie. They asked him, “What right do you have to do this? What college degree did you get? What seminary did you go to?” I can tell you what right he had: John 1:6 says he was sent by God. If you are in God’s will, who cares about what other people say? If God has put a call on your life, obey Him. Go. Don’t worry. God will lift you up.
John told people that he was baptizing them with water, but he promised that the Messiah would come to baptize with fire and power. In Acts 1:8, Jesus promised that power to His disciples, the dynamite power of the Holy Spirit.
John said that he wasn’t worthy to untie even a strap of the Messiah’s sandals, but God allowed him to baptize the Messiah Himself. John baptized Jesus. He saw the skies open up and the Holy Spirit descending on Him like a dove. The voice of God the Father resounded from the sky. God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit were all present where John was.
If God sends you to do His will, like He sent John, He will speak to you and confirm it. John had heard the Father tell him that the One who would baptize people with the Holy Spirit, the Messiah, would have the Spirit descend on Him like a dove. That’s exactly what John saw. God rewarded John’s faithful service. God kept His word, and John was able to testify that Jesus was the Chosen One of God.

About this Plan
John the Baptist was the man that God sent to prepare the way for the Messiah. The Gospel of John, written by the Apostle John, introduces us to John the Baptist’s ministry and to Jesus, God’s Son, sent to save people from their sins. This plan, based on John 1, shows God’s desire for our lives and spiritual walk with Him.
