Source of Life: A 3-Day Devotional With Cade ThompsonSample
DAY 2 - I KNOW WHO I AM, ‘CAUSE I KNOW WHO YOU ARE.
Some of my favorite lyrics in my song, Source of Life are “I know who I am ‘cause I know who You are.” The God of all creation also made you and me, and He desires a relationship with each of us. He considers us His sons and daughters and we are forever included in the family of God. He loves us unconditionally, when we are at our best or when we are at our worst. Our identity is IN Him, not in what we DO. He created us with a purpose. When we take the focus off of ourselves and focus on spending more time with Him, He promises to make all things more clear. He desires to show us His character and to demonstrate His love for us through who He is. The truth is, that once we can stand firm on whose we are, then we can truly live out our purpose in this world.
I was raised in the church and I felt like I knew all about Jesus. But, it wasn’t until I genuinely understood God's love for me by experiencing His love and forgiveness that everything changed for me. I went from not just having the knowledge of God to actually having a relationship with God. He makes it known that we belong to Him and His kingdom...and that right there is royalty! In my own life, it has been easy for me to attach who I am to what I DO. I am constantly reminded that instead, my identity is ultimately found in Jesus.
Think about this...the way we get to know someone is by spending time with them. Ask yourself ‘how well do I know God?’ I want to encourage you to spend time getting to know God by spending more time reading the Bible, and by spending more time in prayer. Allow time to listen to God, not just talk to Him when praying.
I like the phrase, ‘we are human beings, not human doings’ so give yourself time to BE with God, not just always DOing for God.
PRAYER: “Dear God, thank you for continuing to call me yours no matter how far away I get. Help me to focus my eyes more on you and less on the waves of this world around me. Help my desire to be spending more time with you. I want to know more about you! Amen.”
