Elijah. Man of Courage, Man of Faith, Man of God.

DAY 3 OF 22

God provides

The drought that’s scourging the whole country, is also a problem for the prophet Elijah. He does not have sufficient food to survive for years… But the Lord provides for his servant. He tells Elijah to go to a lonely place by a brook, which has water enough to drink from. God Himself will also provide food. Twice a day, ravens come to bring him bread and meat! That’s not exactly what predatory birds tend to do naturally, but these ravens do what God commands them to do.

In general, God expects people to earn their own living. That was his commandment to the first humans, after they had disobeyed Him: “cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life… By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread” (Genesis 3:17-19). But God is also perfectly able to provide food Himself. He did so when the Israelites traveled through the wilderness, and here He does the same for Elijah. These examples show that nothing is impossible for God.

Do you know any more of God’s miracles that are recorded in the Bible? Do you believe they really happened?

Day 2Day 4

About this Plan

Elijah. Man of Courage, Man of Faith, Man of God.

The Bible is full of stories about people who try to live to God's glory - with ups and downs. Elijah is such a man. He is a prophet who serves God wholeheartedly, but is also prone to despondency and depression. He confronts the king fearlessly, but flees from the queen. And in all this, God continues to care for His servant.
