Crisis Converted

DAY 55 OF 64

Theme: God defends his fallen people.

Crisis Converted Then:

Jerusalem and all her inhabitants broke their covenant with God. They wandered from their worship; they lost their mission; and they met with the covenant curses.

So, they drank God’s wrath down to the last sips in the cup. It laid them low. They were utterly destroyed and humiliated. How could they possibly get back up on their own two feet?

God says to them, “Give me your hand and get rid of that cup. I’m going to give it to your oppressors. Those who walked all over you will be the ones falling in the streets.”

Crisis Converted Now:

Running from God produces shame, and our enemies of Sin and Death knock us to the ground mercilessly. We become mired in the mud of our choices and suffer the consequences. We stagger and fall again and again. How can we possibly get back up on our own two feet?

That’s when Christ extends his hand to us. He takes up our shame on his cross and remedies our humiliation. Now, he is pushing back this world’s darkness to expand his kingdom light. He punishes the punishers of Sin and Death with his abundant life. We never have to stagger under the weight of our condemnation again. Today imagine the weight of shame being released from your shoulders and lifting your eyes to see Jesus taking that load.

About this Plan

Crisis Converted

This study from Isaiah 40-55 explores our identity as people affected by trauma but living in hope. In the exile, God’s nation had to find new life when their old life had been completely overturned and destroyed. Similarly, we now find ourselves trying to “return to normal” in the aftermath of a global pandemic. Yet, God can take any crisis and convert it for his glory and our growth.
