Different: A Great Thing to Be

DAY 4 OF 5

You Are God’s Masterpiece

"Hey, you! Look at me.

We’re a lot alike, you see.

But we’re also each Different,

which is a great thing to be!”

Devotion

Do you feel different from others sometimes? Do you ever wish you were more like other kids? The Bible tells us that God makes each one of us a unique masterpiece. And the truth is, we’re all different in some way – and that’s a great thing!

A masterpiece often refers to a piece of artwork—like a painting or a sculpture—that is so beautiful and different that it stands out among all other artwork! The Mona Lisa, for example, is a painting that someone named Leonardo da Vinci made over 500 years ago. Millions of people come to see The Mona Lisa because there is nothing else like it in the world. Guess how much money The Mona Lisa is worth? 850 million dollars! Now that’s a valuable masterpiece.

Art reflects the skill and creativity that God gives to the people He created. But the Bible tells us that you are a much, much greater masterpiece than any of those works of art. God loves who He created you to be and all the different things about you that make you stand out from everyone else. You are beautifully made, absolutely unique, and eternally priceless!

Question

What are some great things about being different from others?

Prayer

God, thank you for making each of your children a different masterpiece! Help me to see the ways I reflect You in a way no one else can. Amen.

Activity

With a grown-up or older brother or sister, look up these famous works of art online or in art books at your library: The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci; The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh; Travelers Among Mountains and Streams by Fan Kuan. Which one do you like the most? What do you like about it?
