Week 6: The Provision of Friendship
Monday: Jesus, Our Ultimate Best Friend
SOAP: 1 Peter 5:7
by casting all your cares on him because he cares for you.
Devotion:
We were made for human relationships, but a fallen world means that many of our relationships will disappoint us or even hurt us. Ultimately, our needs are met by God, never by humans. When we face loneliness, fear, and pain, we can rely on God to bear our burdens and offer comfort. When our friends are not reliable, God always is.
God does not promise to alleviate our pain, heal our sickness, or end our suffering on earth. But our ultimate hope is in total restoration in eternity. We can cast our cares on God knowing that He cares for us because He demonstrated this love by sending His Son to die on the cross for us. Our friends may fail us, but God never will. Our friends may prioritize their own desires over our well-being, but Christ suffered and died for our sake. Our friends may shrug off our burdens, but God promises to trade our heavy weights for an easy yoke (Matt. 11:30).
Prayer:
Thank You, God, that You never fail me! I pray that You will give me friendships that honor You and bring me joy. I thank You that You remain my ultimate source of comfort and security. Amen.

About this Plan
Friendship is an in-depth study on what it means to live in biblical friendship. This study will explore our need for community, the great blessing of friendship, how to recognize and avoid toxic friendships, and how our ultimate provision of friendship can be found in Jesus who laid down His life for His friends. A unified body of Christ is a testimony of the love God has for the world.
