DAY 7 OF 12

Provision

At the end of the two specified weeks, Bill decided he wanted to learn more about his newfound Savior and Healer. He thought the best way to pursue this goal was to attend seminary so he submitted an application to Candler School of Theology, Emory University in Atlanta. By the end of August, he had been accepted, and our house was for sale. We would be moving to Atlanta in a little over a week. We had only one weekend left to find a place to live, a nursing position for me, and a school for Susan, who was starting first grade. We decided to make a quick scouting trip to Atlanta.

When we arrived on campus, I went straight to the Emory University Hospital, filled out a nursing application, was interviewed, and hired.

Meanwhile Bill went to the university housing department and applied for a two-bedroom apartment. We were fifty-fourth on the list. The rest of the day was spent apartment hunting, but all the apartments we visited were either too expensive or too far from campus—we had only one car.

On our way out of town we stopped by the housing department again. Bill went in to tell them we had been unsuccessful in our search and to ask them to let us know if anything became available. In just a few minutes he rushed out of the building with a key in his hand. There had been a meeting that day, and out of fifty-four applicants, we had been deemed the neediest for the very last vacant apartment.

Completely overwhelmed and with thanksgiving in our hearts, we went straight to the apartment, our home for the next four years. The downstairs had a combined living and dining area with a tiny kitchen. Upstairs were two bedrooms and a bath. We thought it was magnificent—and as a bonus, the school bus for the local elementary school stopped right in front of our apartment complex.

During this weekend my mind went back to my Mother's Day experience when Jesus had required that I choose. He was rightfully the center of my life and was proving Himself completely sufficient for me.

We headed back to Danville in silent awe. This day of the Lord’s miraculous provision came as a “wrapped gift” on my thirtieth birthday, September 1, 1967.

I have learned conclusively that nothing is too hard for our God of miracles. He goes before us to prepare the way. Today’s Scriptures are about God’s provision. Be assured He is sufficient, dear child.

About this Plan

Wisdom Date

Have you ever prayed for a spiritual mentor, a mature older woman who would transparently share her God-story and practical wisdom for your life? This Bible plan contains twelve “wisdom dates” with my mother Sandra Strange, age eighty-three. Each day is portion of her powerful testimony and a short teaching our family cherishes. After a long, rich life, she says with certainty, “The Lord is good!” And so will you.
