A Prayer for Friendship

Dear Sweet Child,

I want you to know what a beautiful addition you are to our family. God knew we needed you. His love for us has abounded in the blessing of your life. But, today, I am pondering the fact that you will not belong to us, only. God knows that others need you, too!

We serve a God who encourages community. We were never meant to live our lives alone and in isolation. He uses our lives to touch others and He uses others to impact our lives, as well. So, today, my baby, I pray that you will have the blessing of true friendships.

I pray you will have crazy fun times filled with laughter, acceptance, accountability and joyful memories. I'm praying for friendships in your life that will encourage you, love you and speak truth and life to you. I pray that they will support you in what is good and pleasing and beneficial to your life and to your personal growth. I pray for friends that will point you to Jesus and cheer you on in godly wisdom and pursuits.

Choose your friends wisely, because those that you surround yourself with will have influence over your life, your experiences and your future. Not everyone who smiles means you well. Not everyone who you come across will be willing to invest in your heart. So use wisdom and pray for discernment.

My continued prayer over your future friendships is that you will align your heart with those who desire God's best for you, people who will stand beside you when temptation comes and who will celebrate with you through all the blessings you receive as a result of doing what is right.

Don't be easily impressed with social status or cliques because it doesn't last very long and it won't propel you into spiritual greatness. Instead, I pray that you will choose your friends according to God's will for you, not popularity, convenience or selfish ambition. Select friends that will point you to truth and kindness. Trust the Lord to align your life with people that He deems best for you. You can't go wrong with God's choice!

There are so many adventures, gatherings, experiences and memories awaiting you. Have fun! Stay up late, go on dates, dance with joy and cherish your life! Pour into others as much as you would like them to pour into you. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Be a good friend. Make beautiful memories and celebrate the people that God blesses you with! Know that you are certainly a blessing to so many. Enjoy!
