By The Grace Of God
“His huge outstretched arms protect you - under them you're perfectly safe; his arms fend off all harm.” Psalm 91:4 [MSG]
We are currently fostering the most gorgeous little girl who is four months old. When she is crying and upset the most natural thing to do is to scoop her up into my arms and hold her close. As she feels the security of my arms wrapped around her and the closeness of my embrace, it doesn’t take long for her to calm down and be at peace.
In the Bible the “arms of God” are a vivid image of God’s saving power. In Psalm 136:12, we see the people of Israel celebrating the great Exodus where God saved them from captivity in Egypt by singing, “With a mighty hand and outstretched arm; His love endures forever.”
The arms of God symbolising His power and might.
In Psalm 91:4 (above) we see the people of God reminding themselves of the strength and protection from harm found in God’s arms.
Over the last year the world has been rocked by crisis after crisis; a global pandemic, the horror and anguish of racial injustice, an economic crash, alongside the pain of mental health struggles. Perhaps like never before we are aware of the fragility of our humanity. At the end of the day, we can’t save ourselves from many of these huge challenges. Ultimately no earthly arms are strong enough to protect us from that which we fear most … death.
And so, what a joy it is to find rest and hope in Jesus. What a relief it is to lean into the arms of God, allowing Him to carry us through the storms of life.
The song 'By The Grace Of God' reminds us that our hope and future are secure because of the power and love of God.
“His love is like the mighty ocean
His love for me will never stop
Oh His arms are strong enough to carry me
Through it all by the grace of God.”
TO DO:
Take a moment to acknowledge before God the challenges you face. Perhaps a situation at work or a relational challenge within your family. Cast your anxiety on Jesus, because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7). Now allow the arms of God to embrace you and carry you. Receive afresh today His peace.
