The Story of the Bible

DAY 50 OF 56

Apocalypse

Apocalyptic literature is some of the most difficult to read and understand in the Bible. Revelation is a wonderfully crafted book that brings in many Old Testament themes and shows how these are fulfilled in Jesus.

The cosmic language is announcing that as Jesus came before, he will return. Apocalypse comes from a Greek word that means a "revealing".

This genre of writing is not supposed to cause division and strife but to encourage followers of Jesus to keep living faithfully despite the evil and pain around. Jesus will one day put things right. Heaven and earth will be once again joined together in perfect harmony.
