Postponing the Fight
Courage is not the absence of fear. It is the choice to fight in the face of fear.
God wanted the newly freed Israelites to choose trust in Him over being fearful of their oppressors. Therefore, God assessed the immediate aftermath of their exodus.
God does not always take us through shortcuts. There are times that He leads us through longer routes to protect us. He takes us through journeys so that we will deepen our faith in Him. God is constantly teaching and encouraging us to trust Him.
In the book of Numbers, we see that after years of training, the men of fighting age remained slaves to fear. They were fearful warriors and refused to fight their enemies. For this, God held them accountable. How is it possible that after years of training and being well-equipped to fight battles, these men continued to be slaves of fear? How many of us can relate to these men? We go to church; we seek God to know Him more; we choose a life in Christ, but live fearfully every morning. We live as if we do not have armor from God. There comes a time for all of us, like the people of Israel, when we can no longer postpone fighting. God is holding us accountable. We have two choices to make every single day: we can choose fear, or we can choose courage.
Today is the day to choose courage. We cannot outrun fear. Neither can we continue to avoid difficult circumstances. Stop postponing the battle. You are called to stand your ground. God brought the people of Israel along with patience. He does the same with us. God does not keep us from courage. He gives us the power through the Holy Spirit to choose it. Postponing courage does not end the spiritual battle. Be fearless and courageous. God is on your side!
