Dealing With Injustice...Sample
Stay close to the Lord
You and I were created by God to experience justice. God is just, and we were created in His image. We were created to experience justice and promote it. That’s why some things make us so mad.
I started my first counseling center at 25 years of age. I had just completed a master’s degree in Psychology and Pastoral Counseling. It was a difficult process for sure, but I felt like I was ready—until I wasn’t.
My first nine clients had been sexually abused. I was shocked, angry and I wanted justice for these individuals. I quickly realized only one case out of ten would be reported, and only one of those cases would receive a conviction. Most perpetrators would get away with no penalty or consequences, but the children would be marked for life. I cried for justice and prayed and prayed for those children.
Have you seen injustice in your life or family? Were you able to right the wrong? Were you able to help the situation? Were you a victim of sexual, physical or emotional abuse as a child? I’m so sorry. I can relate, and it makes me so sad you experienced such deep pain.
I built a staff of counselors, religious leaders and social workers that could start the process of helping; we worked on the treatment of trauma, intervention at the earliest stages and prevention. We realized very quickly that while we could not bring complete justice, we did our best and helped a lot of people. The rest we left to the grace and favor of God. Psalms 11:7 gives me comfort in our battle against this type of injustice: “For the Lord is righteous, He loves justice; the upright will see His face.” (NIV)
Only God can bring full justice: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” (Galatians 6:7, NIV)
If abusers are not brought to justice now, I believe God will deal with them. With God, justice will prevail, and the victims will have an advocate and judge who will make it right.
Stay close to God, and let Him be your defender.
You’re a miracle.
