The Census: Who Is At The Centre?
So the Israelites did everything the Lord commanded Moses; that is the way they encamped under their standards, and that is the way they set out, each of them with their clan and family. Numbers 2:34 (NIV)
The book of Numbers starts with a list of numbers: a count of how many in each tribe of Israel, all who are above 20 and able to go forth to war except the Levites, and the detailed arrangement of the camp in the wilderness on each side of the tabernacle. The Israelite encampment is arranged as a square. The centre of the Israelite war camp is occupied by the Lord’s tabernacle, not by a human god-king but by the Lord of Lords. God wanted to be at the centre of their lives. He provided all the order, direction and power the Israelites needed to have every victory from the wilderness to the Promised Land.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your words and guidance You gave us so specifically to protect and lead us into Your will, to fulfil Your plan to bring Your kingdom on earth. Lord I also ask for Your favour to be on us, to lead us to stay on this path from You Lord, no matter how impossible it may seem from our eyes, we pray all these in Jesus' mighty name, Amen.
About this Plan
The book of Numbers, as the Hebrew name suggests, is the Israelites’ travelogue in the wilderness, from Mount Sinai to the plains of Moab, right before entering the Promised Land. Because of the Israelites’ disobedience, the 11-day journey turned to 40 years! But rest assured, God always restore His people to the place of blessings as soon as we return to Him. Come journey through Numbers with us.
