Trust the Process

Leadership isn’t easy but it is amazing when done right. Quite often the most important leadership principle is that the process will define your leadership, not all the other bells and whistles. You cannot have a long-term influence with short-term decision making.

Over my years of leading, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to lead younger leaders. The next two generations are fighting through reality in their time. Social media holds so much influence on their lives and worldviews. The reason that matters for our conversation today is that many young leaders will allow someone’s success or arrival at the “destination” to discourage their journey. Do you know what I mean? When they see someone’s success at an early age, it’s easy to overlay their journey and timing onto their own. It might even seem like an overnight success and make leaders wonder why they haven’t been able to get to that spot yet.

What if it’s the process that’s the most important? If you’ve led for any length of time, you know that what God does in you during your career is more important than what happens to you. If you short-circuit the process just to get to the destination, will you be ready for it?
