Give Light To My Eyes
I have worn glasses ever since I was 18 months old. My parents were told by eye specialists that my “lazy eye” would need support and correction in order for me to live an effective life. So there was an operation, strengthening exercises, a patch, various tests and assessments, and a new pair of glasses every 2 years. My eyesight has been supported for many decades now – and it has been an essential part of my “living well.” I now have the physical ability to see.
I have come to realise that being able to see through our natural eyes and “seeing well” are two very different things. The way I view my life, the world around me, and my future is the result of another set of lenses and filters, directed by my thoughts, beliefs and inner world. This view is so powerful that blind disability rights advocate Helen Keller is quoted, “The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.” Being able to “see” is more than just physical eyesight.
My relationship with God has grown as I have come to realise how God thinks and sees. His ways and thoughts drive the way He sees me and my world. As I have aligned my thoughts and beliefs with His, I have come to “see” myself and my future in a very different light. Time reading and mediating on His Word has shaped my worldview to such an extent that my life in the natural world is significantly influenced by things that I do not see. The Bible is available to us to be our light to the path of life. It helps us to “see well.”
There are times when we need to ask God for specific insight into what we see. We need God to open the eyes of our heart to understand what we need to do. We need Him “to give light to our eyes” so that we can see through the filter of faith. This is what leads to a God-fidence where we can look at life confidently and walk in full stride. When God helps us to “see” accurately, we can be like David when he wrote:
“Take a good look at me, God, and answer me! Breathe your life into my spirit. Bring light to my eyes in this pitch-black darkness …” Psalms 13:3 TPT
If you are experiencing difficulty in seeing God’s perspective in an important area of your life, take a moment to acknowledge His presence. Ask Him once again to help you “see” through the eye of faith to navigate through your day and the season you find yourself in. Perhaps spend some time in scripture around the topic you’re facing, and allow your prayer and reading to help you see through God’s perspective instead of your natural one.
Pray With Me
God, thank You for the gift of eyesight. Thank You also for the gift of insight. Help me to see my world and future through Your eyes. Give light to my eyes. As I read Your Word today, help me to see things Your way, accurately. Let faith in You be my filter and compass, regardless of what I see with my natural eyes. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Key Memory Verse
