The Surrender - 5 Day Devotional with Shauna D. HarrisonSample
DAY 1—Wake Up...Rise & Shine!
"Time to wake up, Shauna!" my mother would yell from the hallway outside my room door. "Wake up. It's time for school."
I shared a room with my two older sisters when I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York, and sleep was highly valued because of the small, close sleeping quarters, and our different schedules. If my oldest sister, Jocelyn was up late, I had to deal with the light that she needed to continue her studies, and vice versa, so when Mom called, I had to wipe the sleep out of my eyes and determine that I was getting up to start my day. I must confess that it wasn't always the waking up which was the struggle, but the real struggle was in my becoming mobile—actually moving my body to do what I needed it to do. The real struggle was getting my feet onto the floor and into action. Now that feat required my brain being "all in"!
"Wake up," Paul tells the church at Corinth.
"Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. For some have no knowledge of God. I say this to your shame." (1 Corinthians 15:34 ESV)
There are so many things that are designed to lull the alert believer to sleep in today's culture. As a result, many are in a "drunken stupor" but not drunk with alcohol. Many are drunk with the "spirits" of the world's culture. Lackadaisical, slothful, compromising, and like dripping water on a rock, they daily become more and more molded to the ways of the world.
Today...Wake up.
Today...You rise.
Today. It's a new day!
Let's go!
What's Next: Sometimes we are awake, but we are paralyzed from the neck down and unable to make the next move to propel us into our destiny!
Prophesy: "I am awake in the mighty name of Jesus and I walk in victory in every area of my life! I will not be lulled to sleep, but I will fulfill the calling on my life, the destiny for my life and I will please the Father in all that I do! I may not be perfect, but I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!
About this Plan
We've each been there. For some, it's a daily destination, while for others it is a faraway land that seems completely out of reach in this season. No matter who you are, the place of "Surrender" is within reach. It's where you will find your victory, your purpose, and yourself. Journey with Pastor Shauna D. Harrison on a 5-day journey deeper into the heart of the Father.
