Home Discipleship Restart

DAY 7 OF 7

Let’s make our homes havens of rest and reflection. Once God had given Adam and Eve the place He designed for them, He rested… and we should too. Remember, our home is a place that we always long for because of the sense of comfort and rest it provides. This is the same with our relationship with the Lord. In Him, our hearts and souls rest. Home discipleship teaches us to do so. We rest in His Word and who He is. When our homes are centered around Him, the rest that our hearts so desperately crave is given to us freely through Him.

You see, home discipleship, that thing we many times feel that we struggle to fit into our schedule, is the very thing that will bring rest in our home. When He is the center of it all, our hearts will indeed be at rest. Entering into rest does not depend on the busyness of our days. Even in our most hectic weeks, when we are running to and fro, from here to there, our hearts can rest in His care and who He is.

How can we cultivate an atmosphere of rest in our homes?

  • Have worship music playing throughout the day. Whether it is on the TV or just playing through your cell phone, simply have that music running through the day focuses our homes in Him. Singing and humming along to the life-giving words and hearing your kids do the same is such a beautiful act of worship, bringing peace and joy throughout the day.
  • Make your personal devotions a sacred time in your day. A parent-centered in the Heavenly Father is a home-centered in Him. And if your kids see you reading the Bible and praying, well, that’s even better.
  • Pray scripture over your children in the morning, before they go to school, and in the evening. Keep God’s word accessible throughout your home.
  • Instead of getting angry at messes and frustrations, drop to your knees and pray. Instead of yelling, pull your children close and pray. Make talking to God a standard and necessary practice. Let it be the first place you run.
  • Make church attendance a priority. Coming together with a body of believers, then living it out at home, is life-giving and essential, bringing joy and rest to your home.

Home discipleship is quite simply how our homes rest and are continually restored. Inevitably, we will get off track, but when we come back to him, lives and generations will be continuously changed.

Faith for a thousand generations starts now. Rise up and take the mantle of home discipleship.
