Keys To Intimacy With GodSample
Gatekeepers
A few years ago, my wife and I decided to go for a walk around our new neighborhood. It was a beautiful day with beautiful company. We walked several blocks around the neighborhood and back to our house. As I reached for the doorknob, it was locked. We each thought the other had the key but neither of us did. We were locked out. To be locked out of anywhere is bad, but to be locked out of your own house is worse.
There is a spiritual door that needs to be unlocked to have intimacy with God. In 1 Chronicles, a key verse is hidden because it is in the midst of “he begot who and who begot he.” The passage tells us who served in the temple, and who the Levites were, yet in the middle of all that, we read a verse that is key to intimacy with God.
The Levites were the gatekeepers and were entrusted with the responsibility of rooms and treasuries in the house of God. The Bible says, “They would spend the night stationed around the house of God, because they had to guard it; and they had charge of the key for opening it each morning.” What struck me about this is that every morning, the gatekeepers would take the key and unlock the door for people to go into the temple. If they did not unlock the door, people could not get into God’s presence.
Now, I wonder, who are the gatekeepers of this generation? What unlocks the door for God’s people to get into His presence? A few things that allow us to enter God’s presence are worship, His Word, and prayer.
Intimacy is what God desires with all of His children. God wants you to know Him. It is amazing that the invisible God, the Creator of the universe, the God of everything we see and everything we do not see, wants you to know Him. He is the God who knows all seven billion of us on this planet. He knows every hair on our head, thought in our mind, desires of our heart, and yet, He seeks to be known.
St Augustine said, “To fall in love with God is the greatest romance, to seek Him the greatest adventure, and to find Him the greatest human achievement.”
