The Power of the Whatever!Sample
The Miraculous is Initiated by the "Whatever."
The beauty of a life spent with Jesus is that the difficulties of life become easier to handle, even when there seem to be impossibilities. Most of the time, when someone instructs, counsels, and advises us on life, it's because they have enough experience to see and know the outcome should we follow their advice. But they can also see the detriment, should we neglect that advice. Listening to Jesus is the best decision anyone can make because he knows the plans of the Father for us, and he wants the best for you.
Sometimes life can throw us a curveball and knock us down. It can come in losing a job that spirals into lack of finances, inability to pay bills, rent or mortgage, or even put food on the table. This one incident can also lead to depression and even unwanted sickness like high-stress levels, high blood pressure, anxiety attacks, sleepless nights, frustrations, and even anger. It could bring us to a place of hopelessness and even thoughts of suicide.
Who would think, one unexpected incident in life could attract so many negatives? But this is the reality of life. In the times of being tempted in the wilderness, Jesus quoted, "The Scriptures say: Bread alone will not satisfy, but true life is found in every word, which constantly goes forth from God's mouth." (Matthew 4:4 TPT).
Jesus was showing us the most valuable possession is not material, but the very words that God speaks. It is his words that can shape and change any natural situation, if we are positioned to listen and obey.
Let us look at two stories in the Bible that show the pattern of activation of miracles because of positioning to listen to the "whatever" of God.
Water into wine - John 2:1-5
This story talks about a wedding in Cana of Galilee. Jesus, his disciples, and his mother were all at this wedding. It seemed like a relaxing, social celebration. It did not appear that anything could go wrong here because love was being celebrated. But in the middle of this wedding, the wine ran out. Oh no! What a nightmare for any host of a wedding.
Mary, Jesus' mother, like any other mother hearing of this dilemma, decides she will get involved by showing off her Son's skills. Jesus expresses that it is not yet his time to work miracles. But, as an obedient son, he gives in to her wish. His mother then turns to the servants at the wedding and says, "Whatever Jesus tells you, make sure that you do it!" (John 2:5 TPT). Here you see the power of the "whatever" (God's Instructions) being emphasized by Mary because she knew first hand his capabilities. The "whatever" (the instructions) Jesus speaks holds the key that unlocks the miraculous.
A Supernatural catch of fish - Luke 5:1-3
In this story, Jesus is being followed and pressed by followers to hear the message of God. They were hungry for the teachings that Jesus brought forth with clarity. Jesus saw two boats sitting on the shore of the Sea of Galilee got into one of them and used it as his pulpit. I am almost sure Jesus knew there was a need for a miracle since the boats were there, and the fishermen were cleaning their nets, which indicated there was no business going on.
Jesus, knowing the need, helped Peter position himself for a miracle. He got specifically into Peter's boat and requested Peter to push the boat out on the water so he could teach the people from the boat. While it may seem like an insignificant request, Peter positioned himself for the miraculous to be activated.
Perhaps like the two stories above, you also might be in a place where you need the miraculous to be activated in your life, whatever the need may be. I encourage you to find yourself a quiet place and simply ask Jesus, "What do you want me to do? I am ready to listen to whatever you have to say!"
