The Gospels in 30

DAY 21 OF 30

Day 21

Luke 19-21

In all of chapter 20, the chief priests and scribes were trying to trap Jesus with His words. They begin by questioning His authority (Luke 20:2). Next they send spies pretending to be sincere (Luke 20:20). The spies attempt to pander Him up with compliments before attempting to trap him with a question. Lastly the Sadducees, who didn’t believe in the resurrection, asked Him about the resurrection (Luke 20:27).

Like in Jesus’s day, there will always be some who question authority, those who pretend to be sincere, and plenty of questioning skeptics. My prayer is that I would be like the ones at the end of chapter 19. Jesus was teaching daily in the temple, the leaders were seeking to destroy Him, but the people were hanging on His words.

“And he was teaching daily in the temple. The chief priests and the scribes and the principal men of the people were seeking to destroy him, but they did not find anything they could do, for all the people were hanging on his words.” Luke 19:47-48 ESV

This is my prayer today: “Lord, help me to hang on your words. When rebellion rises up in me, let me hang onto your authority. When dishonesty and insincerity begins to creep in, let me hang onto your character. When I become the skeptic, let me hang onto your truth.”

About this Plan

The Gospels in 30

During this plan, you'll read the entirety of the Gospels in just 30 days. Are you up for the challenge? Doing so will require 2-4 chapters of Bible reading each day, along with a deep dive devotion highlighting a couple verses from each day's reading. We hope you enjoy this plan written by Cody Griggs, missionary to Ecuador.
