A Humble Approach Earns Respect
Lesson:
When raising support, many of us already feel humbled. It can seem like we are asking people, or sometimes even begging others to support us, so we can do something we love. Humility in support raising is not humiliation. God doesn’t call us to be humiliated. He calls us to be humble, and that humble attitude shows our trust in the Lord and in His might.
When we share with potential supporters, how should we make them feel? Do we approach them with courage, grace, and humility? From a place of confidence in the mission that God has given us and, in His ability to provide for that mission? OR do we come as beggars? Or as proud “servants of the Lord” who demand their dues?
Nehemiah came before the king in a humble, respectful manner. He addressed the king with the proper titles and shared a concise request. He didn’t beg AND he didn’t express extra pride, even though Nehemiah must have known that God had wanted him to play a special part in this mission. Nehemiah simply came before the king, and when God gave him the chance, he shared.
Reflection:
How do I see myself in the support raising process? Am I begging? Am I overly pushy? Or am I humbly searching for those partners that God has prepared to be a part of this ministry?
