Next to God, Thy Parents
Proverbs 1:8
My child, listen to your father’s teaching. And do not forget your mother’s advice.
Samuel got older and he had two sons. Unfortunately, his sons did not live the way Samuel lived. In fact, they were wicked. The Israelites did not want his sons to be their leaders, so they requested Samuel to appoint a king to rule them. Samuel prayed to God and God instructed him to tell the Israelites what it would be like if they were ruled by a king. God gave His warning that having a king would not be as pleasant as they thought. However, the Israelites did not take that warning into their consideration and insisted on having a king anyway, just so that they could be like other nations.
God gave His advice and warning to the Israelites through Samuel. In the same way, God gives you His advice and warning through your parents. Your parents will not always grant every single thing you ask of them. Your parents love you dearly and they know what’s best for you. So, when they grant your wish, be thankful to them. But when they don’t, do not grumble or throw a tantrum. They will give what is best for you at its best timing.
Listen to your parents and obey them because they are God’s representatives to guide and protect you.
Prayer
Dear God, I thank You for my parents who always guide and advise me regarding my wishes and choices in life. Help me to always listen to them. Bless them always with health and wisdom, Lord. Amen.
