Walk with God – Mother Teresa
Mother Teresa saw Jesus in every human being. A great humanitarian, her life inspires us to walk humbly with God and to lovingly serve others. Learn four virtues to cultivate in your life so you can walk on the path God has called you to.
“O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8).
Pray: Lord, open my eyes to your truth and help me understand and obey your precepts.
Observe: Do you ever stop to think about what it means to walk with God?
When we walk with someone, we spend time getting to know that person; we take the time to ask and answer questions; we listen attentively to that individual’s point of view, and we are interested in her or her life. The same is true when we walk with God.
In Genesis 5:21–24 and 2 Kings 2:11, we read of two faithful followers who devoted their lives to walking with God. They walked with God so closely that He “took them,” in lieu of them having to experience physical death. God possibly said, “You’ve walked alongside me for so long now, you might as well walk on home with me.”
When we sincerely walk with God, he requires us to do what is right, to love mercy, and walk humbly. Mother Teresa inspires us by her courageous walk with the Lord. Her love for God was poured out on others through her compassionate love for the world’s poor. She was a world-renowned peacemaker and a Nobel Peace Prize recipient.
She was considered one of the twentieth century’s greatest humanitarians who walked and lived among the poorest of the poor. Mother Teresa’s love for the Lord gave her the courage to help people with leprosy and other infectious diseases, putting herself at risk. As she said, “I see Jesus in every human being. I say to myself, this is hungry Jesus; I must feed him. This is sick Jesus. This one has leprosy or gangrene; I must wash him and tend to him. I serve because I love Jesus.”
Courageously walk with God and walk lovingly alongside others by adopting these virtues:
1. Affirm others regularly.
2. Be forgiving always.
3. Extend kindness daily.
4. Show gratitude consistently.
Interpret: God’s Word defines what is good and right. He requires us to walk humbly with him and choose to do what is honorable and merciful toward others.
Apply: How do you characterize your walk with God? What one thing is God calling you to do today that is honorable and demonstrates mercy toward others?
Pray: Father, I long to walk closely beside you and to know you more intimately and follow you more faithfully. Help me walk humbly in the direction you desire for my life and give me passion and patience to care for others with mercy and grace.
