What Now? Life After High School

DAY 7 OF 7

The Future You Need

By Javan Shashaty

One of the most difficult questions you’ll have to answer in this next season is this: “What is God’s plan for my life?” Every young adult faces this question, and it can be tough to find the answer. But I have good news for you: I know the answer! If you think that’s crazy, think again!

Now, real talk . . . I don’t know what major you’ll choose, what career path you’ll pursue, or what job you’ill have one day. But I do know that the Bible gives us a clear answer to what God’s plan is for our lives.

Here’s the answer: Jesus is God’s plan for your life. It’s as simple as that! God wants you to fall madly in love with Jesus and serve Him forever! Ephesians 2 tells us that we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works! That means the Creator has created us for Himself! No matter how many times you read the Bible, you probably won’t find anything that explicitly tells you: “Choose to be a doctor when you grow up!” It doesn’t work like that with most things in life. Instead, God gives you the freedom to choose which career you want to pursue and then, within that career choice, you can choose to glorify Him and lead others to Him!

In Matthew 28, Jesus gives His disciples the Great Commission: “Go and make more disciples.” This is the calling of every believer. No matter what job or profession you choose , we are all called to make disciples! And your purpose? Romans 8:28–29 says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” That is your amazing and awesome purpose, to become more like Jesus. This is what we call sanctification.

So the question is not: “What is God’s plan for my life?” God’s plan for your life is to know Jesus, become like Jesus, and make Jesus known. The real question is: “Am I willing to go wherever He sends me and do whatever He tells me?” Then, all that’s left to do is say: “Here I am, send me!” and hang on for the ride!
