You Can Be Fearless! Sample
A LOOK AT FEAR
I think we can all admit that we’ve been afraid of something. Every day brings a new reason to feel fear. On a large scale we might be afraid about disease running rampant in the earth; about the economy, terrorism, global warming, nuclear war or cyber-crime.
On a personal level, we might be afraid for our health or our family; afraid of failure, not having enough, being rejected, getting old, or any kind of dread, insecurity or doubt.
Yes! There are plenty of reasons, inside and out, to be afraid. You can see why the devil loves fear – 1 John 4:18 says that “fear has torment.” It paralyzes us. A fearful heart cannot be happy. Or peaceful. Or full of faith. A mind full of fear can’t think clearly or make the right decisions.
Fear is a thief of confidence, a thief of mercy, and a thief of peace. It makes us believe what we see, more than we believe God. It makes us believe more in cancer or a deadly virus than healing. It makes us believe in terrorists more than in divine protection. It makes us believe in lack more than God’s provision.
Fear makes us forget everything good that has happened, and makes us ask “Where is God?” At its root, fear is a loss of control. And that freaks us out.
Fear makes us selfish. We get into self-preservation mode, instead of trusting God and looking out for the well-being of others.
Fear renders us unproductive – it can steal our creativity or our calling. Max Lucado said, “Fear never wrote a symphony or a poem, never negotiated a peace treaty, never cured a disease. Fear never pulled a family out of poverty or a country out of bigotry – it never saved a marriage or a business. Courage did that, faith did that. But fear? It herds us into a prison and slams the door.”
Wouldn’t it be great to walk away from the prison of fear? To live a fearless life? What if, when we’re faced with all the things above, our default reaction was faith instead of fear? Is that even possible? I say yes! That’s what we’re here on earth for! Fearlessness is supernatural, it comes from God, and He wants you to have it.
