DAY 19 OF 31

One

Rex Stump

Ready:

“You have been chosen to know me, believe in me, and understand that I alone am God. There is no other God – there never has been, and there never will be.” Isaiah 43:10

Set:

When attending a professional sporting event, you will notice fans wearing the jerseys of former and current players. We not only wear their jerseys, but we also try to imitate them in how we compete. As my son shoots a fade away shot on the basketball floor, I hear him say, “Curry!” Obviously, he is trying to imitate Steph Curry’s fade away jump shot. Whether you are wearing a jersey or trying to imitate the pro athlete – you are not him! Right? We are just fans and followers.

Throughout scripture, mankind would often chase after false gods or act like they are gods, instead of worshiping the One and Only True God. It’s like they put on these false god jerseys, cheering them on and following them around, in hopes of riches, blessings, and a good life.

Spoiler alert…there is only One God, and we are not Him. There is only One God, and He rules a heavenly court! There are no other gods. There are no others worthy to walk around wearing a jersey with God’s name on it. No one else can do what God has done and will do! Don’t try to be god, recognize and worship only One God.

Go:

1. Have you ever caught yourself worshipping someone else more than God?

2. Do you know more about your favorite player (celebrity) or God?

3. How can you become better at focusing on God and giving only Him your time of worship?

Workout:

  • John 10:27-30
  • Isaiah 44:6-20
  • Exodus 20:2-4

Overtime:

“Heavenly Father, You are God. No one is like You! I admit there are times when I try to be the god of my life. Forgive me and help me to remember You are the only one worth worshipping! There is no other God, there never has been, and there never will be. Amen.”
