Preparing Your Heart To Lead

DAY 11 OF 28

God wants to speak to you and through you

Most of us assume there is a minimum amount of time we have to spend reading the Bible, a minimum amount of holiness we have to achieve before God will work through us. But nothing could be farther from the truth.

When you find yourself in conversation with a friend, and the passage you read that morning pops in your mind, it’s not a coincidence. It’s the Holy Spirit doing exactly what Jesus said He would do, “He will teach you everything and help you remember everything I have told you” (John 14:26).

God speaks to us in many ways, including through other believers. The verses you recall in a moment just might be God’s way of speaking to someone through you!

We will never know everything there is to know about God, but what we do know can save us from and guide us through all kinds of affliction. The Bible has always been true and will always be true. It’s the only thing worth basing our lives on and the only thing that will sustain our group members when life gets hard.

God doesn’t require us to complete a class before He is ready to use us. He only requires a willing and obedient heart.

Whether you’ve been a Christian a few months or a few years, the Lord is ready to speak to you, but He is also ready to speak through you. Pray and ask the Lord to speak through you to your group about what He is teaching you. Ask Him to renew your desire for His Word each day and to grow your love for His Word each time you open your Bible.

Reflect:

  • When was a time you felt like the Lord used someone else to speak His truth to you?
  • Is there any sin or doubt in your heart you feel might hinder the Lord using you to lead others?
  • How are you learning to love the Bible more each day?

About this Plan

Preparing Your Heart To Lead

What makes a good leader? God cares about character, not skill sets. When God was picking someone to lead His people, He had to remind them, ".. man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart” (1 Samuel 16:7). Who you are is more important than what you do. In this study, you'll learn that leading your group well starts by preparing your heart.
