Do You Have To Tithe?

Many churches teach tithing – giving 10 per cent of your income to God. But lots of Christians these days are uncomfortable with the practice. So what’s the verdict? Is this a rule we need to follow? Or are there other things that we could be doing with our money?

• Do you find that as you look at your household budget, God’s share seems to get squeezed? 
• Where does giving to God and His Kingdom fall in your list of expenses? Is it at the top, the first thing you give? Somewhere towards the middle? Or do you give once everything else is covered – if you have anything left over?
• What do you think of God’s challenge to “put [Him] to the test” by sacrificing to Him in Malachi 3:10? Have you ever taken Him up on His challenge?
• Spend some time in prayer with Him today. Listen for His guidance when it comes to the question of your finances and how much and when you give to Him. Forget about rules and percentages – what is He actually calling you to do?
