21 Days of Moving Toward GodSample
Day 17: Faith, Expectation, Results
Fasting cultivates faith in our lives. In turn, faith causes the expectation for God to move in our life to grow. When we choose to fast, it’s a lot like planting a seed in the ground—it takes time for that seed to germinate and grow into its potential. You would never plant a seed and expect to see its full-grown potential in just two weeks, and you shouldn't expect the same result from fasting at this point.
If you haven't seen God move the way you hoped during this fast, don't unearth the seeds you've planted. Be patient, you have sown in faith and will reap in faith if you believe. Hebrews reminds us that "Faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." If you allow Him to, God works in places of hiddenness and darkness. Even when you can't see it, you can have faith that God is working.
As your faith grows, your expectation of seeing God at work in your life begins to increase. Fasting, like gardening, produces a harvest more bountiful than you can imagine. At the same time, it also prunes away distractions from your life to make you more fruitful. The result of this fast might not be what you have gained, but what God has removed. Today, take time to read John 15:1-4 and reflect the image of God, the gardener, and what He is revealing to you through this fast. Have faith, remain planted, and trust Him to work in you throughout the remaining days of our fast.
When we move, expectancy happens.
