Seeking His PresenceSample
So far we have established that we were made to live in God’s presence, that Sin destroyed that reality and separated us from His presence. But now, through Christ, we are restored into relationship and can pursue an intimacy with our Heavenly Father, and out of that intimacy, we can encounter the transformational power of His presence in our lives.
Today, before we continue to seek His presence, we need to address the doubt that God isn’t interested or paying attention. So easily we can begin to believe that God is distant and far off, that He isn’t interested in our lives and that encountering and living in His presence is just not something that can be a reality for us. But Scripture actually shows us that God is incredibly passionate about revealing Himself to His people. Here are a few examples:
- God revealed Himself as Creator in Genesis, by creating and then entering into His creation
- God revealed Himself as “I AM” to Moses in Exodus
- God revealed Himself as a just and good God when He established His Covenant with Moses and gave Moses the Ten Commandments
- God revealed Himself as Holy to the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 6
- God revealed Himself in fullness when He sent His Son Jesus. Hebrews tells us that Jesus was the exact imprint of God’s nature. Jesus revealed God the Father and His nature perfectly.
- God revealed Himself and His redemptive plan for us in the pages of our Bible.
The point is, God wants to be known! He wants to reveal Himself to us. Maybe you have felt like God is distant and far off, that He is removed and uninterested in the complexities of your life. Can I tell you that couldn’t be further from the truth? God has been revealing Himself since creation, and now as believers, we have the Holy Spirit who guides us and continues to reveal the Father to us. This is what it means when we speak of receiving a revelation. This is why we can be confident as we seek to encounter His presence. God has revealed Himself; He is revealing Himself. God wants to be known.
TODAY'S REFLECTION
God is not distant and far off. In fact, He has been revealing Himself in many ways since creation. Now, as believers in Christ, we have the Holy Spirit who guides us into a deeper revelation of who our Heavenly Father is. God wants to be known and this gives us confidence to seek an encounter with His presence.
