How to Make a Deeper Connection With God

DAY 4 OF 6

RUN TO HIM

Have you ever had that feeling that you need something? And you kind of wander around looking for it (usually in the fridge, or the phone, or…).

Too many times we try to fill that need with things like eating, binge-watching, sports, social media, or even drugs and alcohol to numb the pain.

But it’s our hearts crying out for more of God! Only He can fill that void in our souls. And every time we draw near to Him, He draws near to us and willingly pours into us His love, His wisdom, and His help (see James 4:8). Every time He does that, we come to know Him more. But we are the ones who must approach first. Then He’s right there to give us everything we need.

Without God’s power flowing to you and through you every day, you’re on your own. And you know how that works out! I like to say it this way: every day you go without reading your Bible is a day you’re trying to live life in your own strength and it’s too hard for you.

God has given us His Word so we can know His will. He’s given us an open invitation, 24/7, to come and spend time in His presence. To tell Him our worries and leave them in His capable hands. To get His wisdom and perspective on problems. To refuel, reboot, and renew our souls. Jesus tells us:

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”(Matthew 11:28-30 NLT).

What a promise! I don’t know about you, but I feel better just reading that scripture. He is ready and willing to spend all the time in the world with us when we run to Him. He knows we’ll be better off from having done it. That is an invitation I never want to turn down, how about you?
