Serving Those Who Are In Crisis

DAY 10 OF 14

“Getting Help Creatively”

Sometimes getting the help a person needs requires a creative approach. Your ability to come up with a novel method to solve the problem will be challenged. That’s what happened with four men who desperately needed a new technique for getting a paralyzed man to Jesus.

When they arrived at the house where Jesus was teaching, the “no room” sign was up. So they went up to the roof, opened a hole in it, and lowered the paralyzed man on a stretcher into the room where Jesus was teaching. Jesus restored the physical health of the man, after ministering to his spiritual well-being.

The four acted creatively when the conventional way was blocked. They might have waited, not knowing if or when they could get the man to Jesus. Or they might have given up and returned home – perhaps to try again another day, perhaps not. But they persisted, and their persistence led to creativity – “thinking outside the house.” We may have opportunity to help someone who is “outside the door,” that is someone who has been turned away from the conventional sources of help. This is a time to look for alternative ways to get the needed assistance. We may need to cry out in prayer – the Holy Spirit is known for creativity! This story is told as an example of faith. From the scripture reference, can you explain why?

About this Plan

Serving Those Who Are In Crisis

Are you serving others as Christ intended that you should do? Every Christian is called on to serve. We can do that by helping people who are going through crisis. We don’t have to look far to find people in distress. These devotions offer encouragement, support and practical pointers for showing mercy to the hurting.
