When You Want to Give Up
by Deb Weakly
I’m done! I can’t take this anymore! This is too much for me!
Do you ever feel like saying these words? We all do! Life is hard and messy. We are sinful mamas who live in houses with sinful little (and big) people who can say and do things that make us want to give up and throw in the towel. Day after day, we try to be good wives and mothers, and then something happens to make us feel like we want to run and hide, to just get away from it all.
The Bible says we have an enemy who “prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour” (1 Peter 5:8). Satan opposes the people of God. He hates Christian families, so he will try to do all he can to destroy yours. Often he will try to coerce you into giving up on your marriage, a child, and even yourself.
The amazing news is that the Bible also says that we have a Savior who overcame the devil and, as Christ-followers, His Holy Spirit lives inside each of us and helps us live each with power and victory!
"I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms" (Ephesians 1:18-20).
Friend, as a Christ-follower, you have the power of the Holy Spirit living inside of you! This power is so great that we have to pray for the eyes of our hearts to be enlightened in order to even understand this truth! My challenge for you today is to pray and ask God to help you understand this power you have to help you keep going, even when you feel like giving up.
Pray with me today:
"Heavenly Father, sometimes life gets so hard and I can just want to give up. Help me to remember the importance of my role as a Christian mom and the power I have inside of me because Your Holy Spirit resides there. Open the eyes of my heart and give me understanding and wisdom. Teach me how to live each day in Your strength and with Your joy. Protect me from the evil one and help me to remember that "He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4b). In the powerful name of Jesus, I pray. Amen."
