Behind the Scenes – The Esther StorySample

Xerxes wastes no time in meting out justice. Haman is taken away and hanged in the very gallows he had had built for Mordecai. Eventually, Esther is given Haman’s estate. Mordecai becomes a top-ranking official and is given the King’s signet ring and using that seal he issues another decree where the Jews are saved and the wicked are punished.

And with that we close this heart-racing thriller on a victorious note.

Just a few chapters into this book, the situation appears to be woefully bleak. The Jews are facing certain genocide. King Xerxes is eating out of Haman’s hand. Gallows have been erected for Mordecai to be hanged. There seems to be no hope and no plan. But God.

But God sees the big picture, the whole story and, in His sovereign plan, He works out every detail. 

As we close with the Bible Plan’s last reading, here are some questions for us to think about: 

In which situation do you need to see God’s hand, even though He seems to be absent? Pray for eyes to see what He is doing behind the scenes. Praise Him because “His hiddenness is not His abandonment.”

In which situation do you need to trust God’s sovereignty, even though things seem chaotic? Pray for a heart of confidence because He is on the Throne. We don’t have to understand the plan to know that He has a purpose.

In which situation do you need to take a step of faith, even though you don’t seem to be the man/ woman for the job? Pray for godly dependence, wisdom and courage to go where He leads you. Praise Him because when He calls you, He also equips you. Perhaps He is calling you for “such a time as this.”

Father God, Today, I praise You for Your omnipresence, Your sovereignty and Your equipping. Even as I face “giants” who are far bigger than I am, I know that He who is in me is greater than he who is in the world. I put my hope and my confidence in a God whose love is steadfast and whose power is beyond measure. Amen
