Safe in His protection
Psalm 91 was written by David when the Israelites were stricken with pestilence due to David's sin of compiling the statistics of Israel's population. His actions brought the wrath of God. Facing the God's anger, David still said that the safest protection is to stay close to God only.
Animals are not fully equipped with a sensible and healthy mind. However, they have instincts to do a variety of activities, for example, to protect themselves from enemies.
In the scorching afternoon there was a hen escorting her children to an open field. It turns out there was an eagle already swirling high above, maneuvering to try to grab the herd of chickens. Apparently the mother's instinct anticipated any bad things that could happen to her children. Deftly, she gathered her children under her wings. Instinctively, the mother was not only protecting her children, but also providing them security and warmth.
With this, God compared His caring towards his helpless people which can also be easily preyed upon. They are invited to God's promise and care, under His wings. Thus the Lord, in order to protect us from sin, was willing to die on the cross, so that we can live, because of His mercy.
When we walk in the power of our Lord, we will experience security, protection, and provision in the Lord.
